I Was Bit By My Neighbors Dog. What Do I Do?
Ferocious dog attacks can be a truly frightening experience. Although dogs are generally friendly pets, they are still very territorial and are instinctively predisposed to protect said territory, even at the expense of your life.
If you are ever in a situation where a dog has attacked you, it’s paramount that you do the following:
1. Seek medical attention immediately
The worst thing you can possibly do is to “wait and see” if your wounds will heal properly. Open wounds can become infected and could potentially be life-threatening if they are not looked at by a medical professional.
2. Report the incident
Always call 911 to report the incident, even if you do not request an ambulance. Have a police officer take an account of what happened. Make sure to identify the owner and gather their phone number and street address if possible.
